Got this mulch to stop the cats in the neighborhood from using my garden as a kitty litter. It has definitely worked! Bad thing is I can’t buy the product around SoCal where I live. To many animal lovers afraid that their out of control unleased pets may come all the way up to your garden eat the mulch and die. So the garden stores in the area (want to be PETA friendly) won’t carry it. All I can say is, keep your mutts on a lease, away from my planting bed, and your cats in the house where they belong, then we’d all live happily ever after and I wouldn’t have to buy cocoa shell mulch. But life rarely has a fairy tale ending and after trying all the other scat cat items, I decided to try this, which was recommended to try, I didn’t even know it existed. As I said, it has worked fabulously, but, the shipping cost from PA to CA was ridiculously high. Out of control high. So if you can afford the shipping, buy this product, it works great.

I have a dog and he’s never bothered this mulch. It’s not toxic and it’s WONDERFUL in a garden. The smell of chocolate doesn’t last that long (unfortunately) but was does last is it’s impact in the flower bed in keeping out weeds, keeping the bed more moist in a dry climate that I live in and keeping alive plants even when it’s hot outside.
If you can find this mulch – BUY IT – it’s wonderful.

Love this mulch. I use it outdoors in my perennial garden. It is neat and tidy in appearence, easy to apply, and once broken down, makes a nice amendment to the soil. The smell of chocolate only lasts for a short time. As far as it being deadly if ingested by dogs, I cannot comment on that as I have never seen any animal (wild or domestic) ingest this mulch. In any case, if pet owners would abide by the law, there would be no worries about dogs eating the stuff (most neighborhoods have leash laws and pets are not allowed to run rampant through the community). Also, if one has a fenced yard, and chooses to use this mulch, it would prevent any problems should there be an occasional wandering dog.
Great mulch….highly recommended!
